After over a decade of repairing phones I have noticed a trend that is yet to ever step. That trend is charging ports not working because they are dirty. 95% or more of the charging ports I come into contact with repairing cell phones don’t actually need the port replaced, they just need a simple cleaning.
Cleaning out the charging port of your phone is a simple process that can help extend the life of your device and save you from having to get a new charging port installed. Here are the steps you can take to clean out the charging port of your phone:
- Gather your materials. You will need a small brush (such as a toothbrush), a can of compressed air, and some rubbing alcohol.
- Turn off your phone and unplug it from any power sources.
- Use the small brush to gently remove any debris or dust that may be accumulated in the charging port. Pay attention to the corners of the port, as debris tends to accumulate there.
- Use the can of compressed air to blow out any remaining debris or dust. Hold the can upright and aim the nozzle directly into the charging port.
- Dip a cotton swab in some rubbing alcohol and use it to gently wipe down the inside of the charging port. Be sure to remove all debris.
- Allow the charging port to dry completely before plugging in your charger or connecting any cables.
- Repeat this process every few months or as needed to keep your charging port clean and functioning properly.
By keeping your charging port clean, you can prevent damage to the port and ensure that your phone stays charged and ready to go when you need it.
